Element has assisted companies in meeting EMC commercial testing standards and regulations in nearly 200 countries for over 30 years. We help export and sell your electrical and electronic commercial products globally, access new markets, and drive growth.

Why in an EMC commercial testing important?

How does a manufacturer know if their product is going to interfere with other electrical equipment, or be interfered with, when used in its intended environment? You may be surprised to learn that this is a very common occurrence, which can lead to problems with your product malfunctioning or not performing as its users (your customers) expects, or even your product or adjacent products becoming unsafe.

The best practice way to ensure that your product is not susceptible to these common disturbances, and will not cause such interference, as well as making sure that your product meets the relevant legislative requirements, is to EMC test your product.

How is an EMC commercial test conducted?

To test your product or device to ensure its emissions are below the permitted levels and that its performance remains unaffected when exposed to electromagnetic interference (EMI) and disturbances it is typical that for several of the tests it is conducted in an anechoic or semi-anechoic test chamber. This is a special room (a sophisticated Faraday cage) lined with tiles and/or absorbers that creates a ‘clean’ environment within in respect to Electromagnetic (EM) or Radio Frequency (RF) interference.

For the remaining susceptibility tests, these can be conducted in a somewhat less complex shielded room. These special environments, along with a vast array of specialist and appropriately calibrated test equipment (and support equipment for monitoring and/or controlling your product as well as supporting any wireless functionality whilst in the test chamber), enable the series of different emissions and immunity tests to be conducted.

Advice and guidance

Our EMC test engineers offer advisory services to support and guide you when you need it most – at an early stage of your product development.  Early identification of regulatory EMC requirements for your commercial products reduces the number of tests prior to certification, saving you money and time.

The Element advantage

Element's EMC testing laboratories in the US and UK are accredited and approved by NVLAP, A2LA, and UKAS, as well as ISO 9001:2008. We are also a Notified Body in respect to the EMC Directive, and an Approved Body in respect to the UK EMC Regulation.

Our state-of-the-art EMC testing facilities are equipped with fully anechoic, semi anechoic and reverberation chambers as well as HIRF (High Intensity Radiated Field), and can cater for anything from small implantable devices to heavy machinery and vehicles. For large installations simply too big or difficult to relocate, we can also offer on-site testing services.

EMI/EMC testing is just one part of Element's complete testing solutions for safety, compliance, and in-country certification. Our services include but are not limited to environmental simulation, mechanical, safety, structural, operational, functional, and performance testing.

Whether you want to optimize your new product, achieve country-specific certification, or test your product for electromagnetic emissions or immunity, we can help you select the right method for test requirements.
